| Murni's Warung |
On the road to Ubud immediately across the bridge. |
The first restaurant for westerners in Ubud, serving since the mid '70s. Remodeled extensively in 1995, Murni's is a beautiful stone and wood structure on several levels leading down to the river. The menu is eclectic and the food is excellent. Service is good, and the view is superb. Murni's shop adjoining the restaurant is a must-see. |
| Casa Luna |
In Ubud on the south side of main road, near Tino's Drugstore |
A favorite for ex-patriates. Two open floors, constructed of stone, bamboo and thatch, with modern touches. The menu is extensive and ranges from pizza through sandwiches to entrees with European, Indonesian and Indian flavors. Fruit juices and lassi (fruit juice and yoghurt) are excellent. Movies play every night in a rather closed room. Casa Luna Bakery provides fresh breads and pastries. The desserts are incredible! They also sell dairy and meat products unavailable elsewhere. |
| Mumbul |
Across the street from Casa Luna |
The best ice cream in town, home made and delicious. They serve from 8am thru dinner, and have an excellent menu. My personal favorite is the tropical chicken salad. Breakfast is excellent. The patio has a nice view to the river. Try the home made ice cream! |
| The Lotus Cafe |
50 meters toward the center of town from Mumbul |
The Lotus has been a favorite with tourists forever, it seems. It is set on a large pool full of lotus plants, bordered by large frangipani trees. At the end of the pool is an imposing temple gate, ornately carved. The menu is extensive, the food good, the building (remodeled in the early 90's is open and beautiful, a traditional bale. Patio tables are a treat in the evenings. |
| Bumbu |
Around the corner from the main temple and dance exhibition |
Specializing in Balinese and Indian food. One wall is an old Javanese palace gate, carved teak. The adjoining wall is really an opening to a beautiful garden, with fountains bubbling. The food is excellent, the menu provides many choices for any taste. Many vegetarian dishes |
| Kagemusha |
Pengosekan, on the main road |
Country-style Japanese, beautifully designed and built, excellent tempura, teriyaki, rice and noodle dishes. Take out available. EXPENSIVE |
| Kin Khao |
Monkey Forest Rd. near Jl. Hanoman |
Thai food, well prepared. Attractive layout, with one of the few rice field views left. An enjoyable dining experience. |
| Indus |
Sangggingan, 50 M from Bali Sunrise |
Same ownership as Casa Luna, with excellent food and a wonderful view. The stone building is nicely designed and decorated. Open 7:30 am to 11 pm. Excellent value. |
| Naughty Nuri's Warung |
Sanggingan, across from the Neka Museum |
This is my favorite. Indonesian and Western food, well prepared. Terrific barbecue, especially the spareribs! Thursday night is fresh Tuna night, with barbecued tuna steaks, tuna sate, and sashimi available. Delicious! Nuri's is an expat hangout. |
| Cafe Wayan |
Monkey Forest Rd. |
Good food, for many years. Cafe Wayan is still a most popular restaurant, well worth a visit. |
| Mosaic |
Sanginggan, 100 M from Bali Sunrise |
The Chef/Owner was formerly sous chef at The French Laundry in California, one of the top 10 restaurants in the US. He brings his skills to one of the most beautiful settings I have experienced, a wonderful tropical garden, tastefully lighted in the evening. The staff is extremely good, and the food is the best I have ever tasted. |
